Content note
This incident involved a real injury: two young children were submerged in swamp water and hospitalized for treatment before being released.
A Lakeland man fleeing a DUI crash carries his toddler and infant into a swamp at night, dropping them in standing water before a police drone finds him.
Isaac Kinsey, 27, drove through a road-closure sign and sandbags into a construction zone on State Road 33 near North Combee Road in Lakeland early on September 9, then fled on foot into a nearby swamp carrying his 2-year-old and 10-month-old children. A police drone located Kinsey about 30 minutes later stumbling through the dark, marshy area; he fell repeatedly, submerging both children in standing water, and at one point set the toddler down to keep moving through the swamp with the infant. Officers rescued both children, who were treated and released at Lakeland Regional Health. Kinsey, who admitted to drinking and was driving on a suspended license, was arrested and faces eight misdemeanor and three felony charges, including two counts of negligent child abuse with great bodily harm.
