Pretty wild
A man fishing at dawn finds a dead whale washed ashore and cuts off its tail to take home and cook.
Chris Hogan, 60, was fishing for blue crabs at dawn on September 2, 2010, when an 8-to-12-foot pygmy sperm whale washed ashore in Delray Beach. Hogan pulled out a knife and cut off the whale's tail, planning to take it home to broil or fry. A lifeguard told him that mutilating a dead whale (a federally protected marine mammal) is a crime even though the animal was already deceased, and Florida Fish and Wildlife agents took him in for questioning. 'I didn't know it was illegal,' Hogan said, adding, 'I apologize to the state of Florida.'
