A Florida marathon runner is intercepted by the Coast Guard while attempting to 'run' to London in a homemade floating hamster wheel.
The U.S. Coast Guard found a 44-year-old Florida man about 70 nautical miles off Tybee Island, Georgia, inside a homemade 'hydro-pod' built from wiring and buoys, as Hurricane Franklin approached. He told officers he was trying to run all the way to London. During a three-day standoff he claimed to be armed and threatened to detonate a bomb, which he later admitted did not exist. It was not his first attempt to cross open water in a human-powered vessel. He tried a similar trip toward New York in 2021.
