A Fort Lauderdale woman allegedly steals a marked Broward Sheriff's Office cruiser, drives it nearly 100 miles, and is caught in the woods wearing an agency ballistic vest.

Shannon Marie Dillon, 42, of Fort Lauderdale, allegedly took a marked Broward Sheriff's Office Dodge Charger from the Public Safety Building parking lot shortly after 9 p.m. on September 23, 2026, then drove it about 100 miles north before abandoning it on the Gatlin Boulevard off-ramp in St. Lucie County. Deputies found her hiding in a nearby wooded area wearing an outer ballistic vest bearing Broward Sheriff's Office insignia. She was charged with grand theft of law enforcement equipment, unlawful use of a police badge or vehicle, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, drug paraphernalia possession, driving with a suspended license, and resisting without violence. At a bizarre bond court appearance where she smiled and laughed, Dillon told the judge, 'Thank you very much judge, and I will not disappoint you.'
