A carjacking attempt on an elderly man falls apart after the suspect realizes he can't operate a manual transmission.
Deputies said 25-year-old Jaelyn Alexander tried to carjack an elderly man at the intersection of East Colonial Drive and Dean Road in Orange County just before noon. Once inside, Alexander couldn't get the manual-transmission car moving and jumped out, then stole a second vehicle instead. He was arrested a short time later and charged with carjacking, grand theft, and battery on a victim over 65. The elderly victim told deputies he believed the stall was because Alexander didn't know how to drive a stick shift.
