Joseph Malinowsky, the Tampa boater known online as Lieutenant Dan for refusing to evacuate during hurricanes, is arrested for trespassing.

Joseph Malinowsky, 54, became a viral folk hero after posting TikTok videos of himself riding out Hurricanes Helene and Milton aboard his boat instead of evacuating, earning the nickname Lieutenant Dan after the Forrest Gump character who does the same. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office arrested Malinowsky in Tampa on October 18, 2024, on a trespassing charge, along with a warrant for failing to appear in court on earlier charges of driving an unregistered vehicle without a valid license. He remained in jail as of the following day, with no attorney listed in court records.
