A Florida woman staples together two losing scratch-off lottery tickets and submits the spliced result as a winning $1 million ticket.
Kira Lee Enders, 36, of DeFuniak Springs, brought a laminated scratch-off ticket to the Florida Lottery's claims office in Pensacola on March 1, 2024, claiming it was a $1 million winner in the '500X The Cash' game, with Dakota Jones, 32, accompanying her. Investigators found the ticket had been pieced together from the top half of one losing ticket and the bottom half of another, taped and laminated to hide the seam, and that Enders had written her own name and address directly on it. When investigators called her back in for more paperwork, both were arrested at the lottery office on April 17, 2024. Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons said, 'You're not a lottery winner, you're a criminal,' and Enders was charged with grand theft over $100,000 and presenting and altering a lottery ticket with intent to defraud, while Jones was charged as a principal to the same offenses.
