Florida Man allegedly tells officers he has a 'dirty bomb' in his truck after crashing into a Publix, triggering a bomb squad response.
Benjamin Donald Johnson, 43, crashed his truck into a Publix on U.S. 27 in Davenport on the night of December 5, 2025, then refused commands to get out, forcing deputies to physically remove him as multiple firearms sat in plain view inside. While detained in the back of a patrol car, Johnson told officers he had a 'dirty bomb' in the truck, prompting a lockdown and a response from the FBI, ATF, and a bomb squad. The chained, radioactive-warning-labeled container turned out to be a soil-testing moisture density gauge with less radioactivity than a medical X-ray. Johnson was charged with hoax weapon of mass destruction, false report concerning a bomb, and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
