A Palm Coast man ditches roughly $1,500 in stolen Lowe's merchandise and tries to escape deputies by hitching a ride on the back of a moving UPS truck.

Flagler County deputies say 31-year-old Michael Daversa attempted to steal about $1,500 worth of merchandise from a Lowe's in Palm Coast on July 3, 2025, and abandoned the items and fled when deputies were called. A citizen later spotted a man riding on the back of a moving UPS truck along Palm Coast Parkway, and the UPS driver pulled over and ordered him off; detectives matched him to the shoplifting suspect through surveillance footage. Daversa was arrested on a grand theft shoplifting charge and held on $15,000 bond, with Sheriff Rick Staly saying he 'earned himself free same-day delivery' to the county jail.
