A 20-mile interstate chase ends with deputies and suspects fighting through the woods together, only for both sides to get swarmed by wild bees.
A Florida Highway Patrol trooper tried to pull over a silver Acura in St. Lucie County; the car fled onto I-95 and into Indian River County, with a sheriff's helicopter and Sebastian police joining a roughly 20-mile pursuit. The three occupants (Joel N. Brown, 20, Markaveli J. Butler, 20, and a 15-year-old boy) abandoned the car and ran into the woods along State Road 60, where K-9 Mako and deputies found them hiding under palmetto bushes. As deputies moved in to make the arrests, a large swarm of bees descended on the area, stinging deputies, the K-9, and the suspects alike as everyone struggled back through chest-deep mud to the road. No one suffered serious injuries from the stings, and all three were booked on felony charges of fleeing and eluding and resisting arrest without violence; Butler also had an active felony warrant and an ICE detainer.
