A Florida woman allegedly drove up to a closed Secret Service checkpoint near Mar-a-Lago, turned on a hose, and told officers she was there for a car wash.

Palm Beach police were stationed at a closed Secret Service security checkpoint near Mar-a-Lago around 6 p.m. on August 25, 2026, when an officer saw a woman exit a gray Hyundai SUV, walk to a hose and sprinkler system in the closed lot, and turn it on. When an agent approached and questioned her, the woman, identified as Alexa Rae Scharf, 29, of Loxahatchee, allegedly said, 'I'm here for the car wash.' Scharf then fled in her SUV, driving toward officers at the checkpoint, before becoming involved in a standoff several blocks away. During her arrest, police shot and killed her pit bull after it attacked and bit an officer. Scharf faces charges including two counts of aggravated assault with a vehicle, fleeing and eluding police, and resisting an officer without violence, and was held on $16,000 bond.
