Two fugitives allegedly try to steal more than $2,500 in trading cards from a Palm Coast Target while deputies happen to be inside investigating another theft.
Andrew Simmons, 27, and Madeline Whaley, 35, both of Jacksonville, allegedly tried to walk out of a Palm Coast Target with more than $2,500 worth of sports trading cards on September 21, 2026, not realizing Flagler County deputies were already inside the store working an unrelated theft case. Deputies stopped the pair and reported finding methamphetamine, fentanyl, a stolen handgun, and multiple outstanding warrants between them. Simmons was booked on grand theft, drug possession, and four warrants, while Whaley faced charges including accessory after the fact, grand theft of a firearm, and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. Sheriff Rick Staly said, 'They picked the wrong store in the wrong county at the wrong time, as unfortunately for them, deputies were literally waiting.'
