A Riverview man allegedly steals almost $10,000 in groceries from Winn-Dixie self-checkout lanes over eight months while scanning his own loyalty card on every visit.

Julian Mitchell, 44, of Riverview, is accused of manipulating self-checkout registers at four Hillsborough County Winn-Dixie stores between March 2025 and February 2026, making off with nearly $10,000 worth of steaks, chicken wings, laundry detergent, diapers, and toilet paper. Detectives say Mitchell visited the same stores more than 100 times and used the same loyalty number on every trip, which let them trace the pattern of thefts back to him. Mitchell, who was on probation for prior drug charges, was arrested and booked into the Hillsborough County jail, with Sheriff Chad Chronister saying the arrest 'sends a clear message that organized retail theft will not be tolerated in Hillsborough County.'
